NEW YORK (WHEC) — Six new lawsuits were recently filed under New York’s Child Victim’s Act.

Since the law went into effect in August, most of the claims were filed against the Rochester Catholic Diocese, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September.

Now, lawsuits are being filed against individual Catholic parishes.

A lawsuit filed Wednesday named the Immaculate Conception St. Bridget Church in Rochester, The Parish of the Most Holy Name of Jesus in Elmira and Kateri Tekakwitha Roman Catholic Parish in Irondequoit. It also named Catholic Charities, which is part of The Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester.

News10NBC reached out to the diocese. A spokesman said it will no give comment out of respect for the court process.
