Dan Lowengard named interim superintendent for RCSD

Dan Lowengard has been named the interim superintendent for the Rochester City School District.

The board appointed Lowengard as interim superintendent while they look for a permanent replacement to fill Superintendent Barbara Deane-Williams' position.

Deane-Williams' announced her retirement, effective Jan. 1, in early October. Though she was only in the position for 26 months, she says it was not an abrupt choice. Deane-Williams says she let the school board know last spring that she was not going to seek an extension.

This will be Lowengard's second chance at the job. He was previously appointed interim superintendent in 2016, after Bolgen Vargas resigned.

However, Lowengard only held the position for four days before he had a stroke and collapsed during a meeting with teachers.

Linda Cimusz will be his chief of staff.
