Department of Health: Drinking water in Rushville is now safe

October 13, 2018 01:21 PM

The New York State Department of Health has discontinued the Do Not Drink Advisory for the Village of Rushville's water supply.

The announcement on Saturday came after testing that found that the blue-green algae toxin called microcystin is no longer above the EPA's health advisory level for water delivered to consumers. That means the water is now acceptable for drinking, food preparation, and all other household uses. The advisory was first issued after tests on Thursday found it above the advisory level for children under six, causing the state to recommend everyone to not consume the water out of an abundance of caution.

Further work will be done by the Village of Rushville's Public Water Supply and the Department of Health to continue to monitor the water supplies.
