News10NBC received new information Thursday night about the Penfield man who deputies believe murdered his wife and then tried to kill his mother.

The man, identified as Arnold Ford Jr, was found dead in his car at a travel center near Erie, Pennsylvania.

The sheriff's office says Ford used a .40 caliber gun to shoot and kill himself. It turns out, the gun was legally owned and registered to Ford's wife.

This all started Wednesday morning when investigators did a welfare check at a home on Collingsworth Drive in Penfield.

Deputies found Ford's wife dead. Then, they rushed to check on other family members. His mother, 75-year-old Florence Ford, was found nearly beaten to death at a house in Riga.

Deputies tell News10NBC a hammer was used to beat Ford.

She's still in guarded condition at Strong Hospital.
