The sheriff's office says Ford used a .40 caliber gun to shoot and kill himself. It turns out, the gun was legally owned and registered to Ford's wife.
This all started Wednesday morning when investigators did a welfare check at a home on Collingsworth Drive in Penfield.
Deputies found Ford's wife dead. Then, they rushed to check on other family members. His mother, 75-year-old Florence Ford, was found nearly beaten to death at a house in Riga.
Deputies tell News10NBC a hammer was used to beat Ford.
She's still in guarded condition at Strong Hospital.
