Deputies warn of utility bill scam in Livingston County

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a utility bill scam.

Deputies say some people received phone calls about delinquent electric bills. The scammer states if they do not pay in 10 minutes, their power would be terminated. The scammer then asks you to pay over the phone via credit card or send them gift cards.

If you get a call like this, you're urged to hang up and call your utility provider to verify your account and report the scam to deputies at 585-243-7100.
