Zane is a member of the Boy Scouts and is working towards his Eagle Scout status.

He called Rochester Police looking to volunteer to work on a project.

Zane was told about the "Books and Bears" program.

That's where the RPD accepts new books and stuffed teddy bears that officers can then offer to small children who experience or witness violence or some other traumatic event.

Zane spent the next year raising funds by holding bake sales and asking for donations.

This past February, Zane delivered 200 individually wrapped waterproof packages each containing a new teddy bear, coloring book and crayons.

"I wanted to do something that I thought would be more impactful to the community, and I was thinking about this one. It made me realize it would be a big help to the police officers and the community in general," said Thieleman.

The Rochester Police Department often gets donations of books and bears, but rarely in this quality and quantity, and never from one individual.

Each of Zane's bear packages have been distributed to the various sections throughout the city.

Way to go Zane!
