ROCHESTER, N.Y.(WHEC)— News10NBC is celebrating another winner of the “Do the Right Thing” award, and here's Emmitt Sims, from Jefferson Road Elementary School.
Emmitt was nominated by a 911 worker for his ability to remain calm and level-headed during a scary situation that happened the day before his seventh birthday. This past March, 911 staff got a call from Emmitt's neighbor requesting medical help for Emmitt's mother.
The neighbor said she was out for a walk when Emmitt approached her asking for help, saying his mother was on the floor. Emmitt was able to provide helpful information while the neighbor called 911, and they could hear him comforting his mother the entire time they waited for an ambulance to arrive.
Thanks to Emmitt, his mother received medical care and is doing well!
Great job, Emmitt!
The Do the Right Thing Awards program has been part of the Rochester Police Department since 1995 and News10NBC is a proud sponsor of the program.
