Do the Right Thing: Monika handles 911 call during emergency

Our latest Do the Right Thing award winner is a fourth grader from School 15 in Rochester.

Monika Adhikari was nominated by a 911 operator for her calm and collected composure during a family emergency involving her father.

She was able to effectively translate what her mother was trying to tell the 911 operator and vice versa. She and her family have overcome several challenges as they settle into American life.

"When you are nice and helpful, people feel happy and it's good to help people," she tells us. "When you do the right thing, people will like you more and treat you better."

Monika is a diligent student and a model citizen who has worked hard at mastering English.
