CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHEC) — Canandaigua police arrested a man and a woman for animal cruelty after they found a dog dead while responding to a fight.

Last Thursday, officers say they responded to a Niagara Street home for the report of a fight between Frederick Moskala, 60, and Maryann Grant, 59.

Investigators say that during the fight, some furniture had been overturned.

Officers on scene say they found a miniature Doberman pinscher dog was trapped underneath the overturned furniture and had died.

The Ontario County Humane Society took possession of another dog as a safety precaution.

Humane Society staff investigated and found that the deceased dog died from internal injuries received after being crushed underneath furniture.
