A dozen dogs left out in the bitter cold in Lyons have been removed from the property and are now in custody of the Wayne County Humane Society.

Last week, hundreds of concerned residents reported the dogs' owner for animal abuse. Sheriff Barry Virts says they've been to the dog owner's home on Middle Sodus Road several times in the last couple of weeks.

The Sheriff's Office says the Humane Society has received numerous threats via social medial and phone calls, which are being investigated.

The investigation is continuing with assistance from the Lyons Animal Control Officer, Lyons Code Enforcement, NYS Agriculture and Markets, and the Wayne County Humane Society and the Animal Abuse Investigators from the Wayne County DA's Office.

The Lyons Code Enforcement Officer has issued a stop work order to prevent the owner from maintaining a Kennel for Commercial Purposes.

All the animal have received vaccinations and are properly licensed.
