CHILI, N.Y. (WHEC) —  Five people were rushed to the hospital after a car went airborne and crashed into the woods in Chili early Tuesday morning. The driver is now facing charges.

The crash happened just after midnight on Humphrey Road at Brook Road.

Deputies say the driver, 24-year-old Ryan Dewald of LeRoy, missed a 90-degree turn, hit a berm and landed in some trees.

Dewald was ejected. Four passengers were also in the vehicle at the time. The front-seat passenger had to be cut out, the other three got out on their own.

Everyone in the car is between 17 and 24 years old. It is unknown whether anyone was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Dewald has been arrested and charged with reckless driving, speeding and failure to maintain his lane.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the accident.

A portion of Humphrey Road was closed during the accident investigation but has since reopened.
