Charges filed in high-speed chase through Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A police investigation led to a chase through the city of Rochester around 3:30 Thursday morning. 

It started as an investigation on Gray Street when someone called to report hearing shots fired, according to Rochester Police. 


When officers arrived, Capt. Gabriel Person said they saw someone firing shots from a vehicle. Person said the car took off and this quickly turned into a chase through the streets of the city.

At one point, we saw the car fly past our station at 191 East Ave. followed by several RPD cruisers.

Police said the chase ended just after 4 a.m. on North Goodman Street and Springfield Avenue , with the arrest of 19-year-old Vasilios Vamvakitis.

No one was injured. 

Vamvakitis faces charges including criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
