Report: Easter holiday spending expected to hit $18B

(NBCNC) -- Many Americans are gearing up, and more importantly, getting their wallets ready for Easter. 

According to the National Retail Federation, an estimated eight in 10 adults plan to celebrate Easter this year. They will spend an average of $151 each, which is a total of about  $18 billion in total spending for the holiday.

It's estimated that about 87 percent of consumers will purchase candy and chocolate, roughly $2.4 billion worth, which is more than what consumers spend on Halloween candy.

Easter shoppers will also spend an estimated $5.74 billion on food, $3.27 billion on clothing and $2.87 billion on Easter gifts.
