Emergency room visits increased for children with allergies

Emergency room visits for children with allergies are on the rise, according to a new study from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.

Their research found that visits for anaphylaxis spiked 150% from 2010 through 2016.

Nearly half of the visits stemmed from severe reactions from foods, especially peanuts, tree nuts and seeds.

Experts said that parents are recognizing symptoms of an allergic reaction better, and coming to emergency rooms faster than they have in the past.
