Troopers: Man killed in Marion crash, winter weather may be to blame

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Adam Vitalone of Marion.

Troopers say a man has died after a crash overnight along the border of the towns of Williamson and Marion in Wayne County.

Troopers tell our crew at the scene that the man's car went off the road and flipped over into a creek on County Road 218. They say winter weather could be to blame; the area got six inches of snow overnight.

Investigators don't believe any other vehicles were involved in the crash. It's not clear exactly what time the accident happened, but troopers say the time frame was likely around 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. on Sunday. The wreckage wasn't discovered until Monday afternoon around 1 p.m.

A water rescue crew responded, but it was too late.

"It was upside down submerged in the water bed and a creek, probably two-thirds of it was submerged in the water," says Mark O'Donnell, New York State Police. "It looks like the occupant tried to get out and was unsuccessful."

The crash is still under investigation at this time.
