Fatal medical emergency causes drive-thru crash in Ontario County

A fatal medical emergency caused a rear-end crash at an Ontario County drive-thru on Friday.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff, at around 6:08 p.m. the 73-year-old driver of a Dodge Ram at 4126 State Route 96 in Manchester suffered a medical emergency, causing the vehicle to rear-end a Jeep SUV ahead of him. The driver, identified as Rome resident Nicolas J. Favata, was transported to Clifton Springs Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Jeep, 42-year-old Farmington resident Margarita Arroyo, was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital for treatment of neck and back pain. 

The cause of Favata's death has not yet been determined, although the Sheriff's Office and Ontario County Coroner continue to investigate. Drugs or alcohol do not believe to have been factors.
