ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The News10NBC First Alert Weather team has issued a Yellow Alert for today and tonight.

At times today, we will see bursts of snow and wind that will bring times of tricky travel. Be alert and prepared for changeable conditions with snow and blowing snow as winds pick up to over 30 mph this evening.

Locally, heavy lake snow will develop later this afternoon into tonight and will bring a few inches of snow along Route 104, including the city of Rochester.

The First Alert Threat Tracker is our way of giving you days notice of impending bad weather. We issued this Yellow Alert over the weekend to make sure you were aware of the snow that's coming.

Yellow is for caution; it's a heads up for weather that will have an impact. Red Alerts are only issued for major storms like a blizzard or ice storm.

With a Yellow Alert in place for today, the News10NBC First Alert Weather team is helping you prepare for the changing weather on the way.
