First responders receive Heartsaver Hero Awards for saving young man

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- The Rochester American Heart Association presented Heartsaver Hero Awards to four paramedics who saved a young man from a cardiac arrest. 

The AMR first responders acted fast in January when they found the lifeless young man.

He had been without a pulse for 10 minutes but they didn't give up.

Finally, they were able to revive the young man who has now made a full recovery. 

"They say that for every minute, you lose 7-10 percent chance from coming back, so being down for 10 minutes, we just typically don't see people functioning that well after an event like this," said Alexander Fasino, AMR paramedic. 

The AMR first responder honorees are as follows: 

  • Paramedic Xavier Corujo
  • EMT Ana Dolak
  • Paramedic Joshua Prouty 
  • Paramedic Alexander Fasino-Bush
