The former principal at UPrep Charter School has filed legal papers signaling he plans to sue the City of Rochester, Mayor Lovely Warren, and the school for slander and libel.

Joseph Munno says he was fired shortly after the mayor publicly accused him of denying a student the opportunity to give his valedictorian speech at graduation in June.

Jaisaan Lovett was UPrep's first African-American valedictorian. Munno says Lovett wasn't prevented from speaking, but rather had declined the honor.

Munno's attorney accuses Warren of using race for political gain. We have reached out to the mayor's office for comment, but have not yet heard back.
