ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The former Rochester police officer convicted of beating an innocent man is expected to be sentenced Monday.
A judge found Michael Sippel guilty of misdemeanor assault for attacking Christopher Pate in May 2018. Officers arrested Pate in what turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.
The Rochester Police Department fired Sippel in June, a month after his conviction.
Sentencing was originally scheduled for August 16 but was adjourned to Monday. Sippel faces up to a year in jail.
