MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WHEC)- Gates Chili graduate Cierra Dillard was cut by the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx on Saturday.
According to a press release by the Lynx, Dillard was waived after not playing in in Friday's preseason game against Washington.
Dillard had been drafted in April in the second round of the WNBA Draft, 20th overall.
Although ultimately she was unable to crack the Lynx roster, Dillard tweeted out a thanks on Saturday to Minnesota for giving her an opportunity:
Thank you Minnesota for the opportunity you’ve given me to learn from amazing talents and grow. What a great organization and city. Blessed and grateful for the time I spent with a great team. Good luck in the upcoming season??????— Cierra Dillard (@CDillard24) May 11, 2019
After graduating from Gates-Chili, Dillard played college basketball at the University of Massachusetts and then the University at Buffalo, where she led the Bulls to two NCAA tournament appearances and was named an honorable mention on the All-American list. It is possible that Dillard may be picked up by another WNBA team.
