News10NBC has confirmed that GE will close its plant in Rochester on Science Parkway.

In an emailed statement Tuesday night, a GE representative said the work will be shifted to "one of GE’s partner suppliers."

The statement goes on to say: "The assembly of the electronic boards at this facility is not core to GE’s manufacturing capabilities and GE contracts 80 percent of these products to external partner suppliers already. Transferring work is always a tough decision, but we are committed to supporting our employees during this time of transition."

It's not clear exactly how many people will lose their jobs, but GE says it will impact "fewer than 100 employees."

When asked where the work would go, GE reps told News10NBC that the company had awarded a contract to supplier Jabil. While Jabil is headquartered in Florida, GE says the work will be performed at the company's facility in China.

Representatives say they made the decision in order to "provide our customers with more competitive, efficient products and services."

Employees were notified on Tuesday.
