ALEXANDER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC has learned the driver in Monday night's fatal crash in Genesee County was previously arrested as a gang member.

The crash happened on Monday night after a police chase that started in Warsaw, Wyoming County, ended, then started back up again in Attica. Attica police say they stopped pursuing the vehicle due to the high rate of speed, but found the vehicle later down the road, crashed into a tree.

The driver, 22-year-old Cleveland Johnson of Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, was killed after crashing into a tree in Alexander, Genesee County.

Last year Johnson was arrested by Greenburgh Police in White Plains, New York, as a member of the Felony Lane Gang.

Shortly after that, the FBI intervened in Monroe County when the gang was accused of stealing purses in Webster and Penfield.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office says it's looking into that connection as part of their investigation, but they don't believe the gang is operating in Genesee County.

Two others were involved in the crash as well 33-year-old Desarae Steriotis of Philadelphia and 24-year-old Clyde Frazier of Ft. Lauderdale. They were taken to separate hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
