WASHINGTON, D.C. (WHEC) — U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has joined the growing chorus calling for an independent investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Gillibrand, who has focused much of her time in Washington on issues related to sexual harassment, released the following statement on Sunday:
“These allegations are serious and deeply concerning. As requested by Attorney General James, the matter should be referred to her office so that she can conduct a transparent, independent and thorough investigation with subpoena power.”
Cuomo has not yet granted Attorney General Letitia James request, instead requesting that she and the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals select an independent lawyer for the investigation. James has denied the request, noting that under the state's Executive Law it is her responsibility.
