Brian Gionta was on the ice with the Amerks for his first practice on Tuesday.

Monday, the team announced Gionta would join them for practices, but wouldn't play for the team. Instead, Gionta will use the ice time to prepare for the Olympics.

Still, wearing that signature shield brings back childhood memories playing for the Junior Amerks.

"It's been 25-plus years since I've worn that logo," Gionta said. "There was only one travel team and that's the team you played for so it’s been a while since then. You know I think it’s a good thing for myself to stay in shape and stay active and I think I can provide some things to the young guys by coming out here and practicing with them. It's a win-win for both sides and it just worked out well that way."
