Billionaire and former Buffalo Sabres owner Tom Golisano is in court this week fighting to get more than $300,000 from an interior decorator in Rochester.
Golisano is disputing the work that was done on his yacht. One of those who took the stand Monday included his wife, tennis great Monica Seles.
Golisano also took the stand in the civil case against decorator Norma Goldman and the company she worked with, Vitoch Interiors. He maintains Goldman agreed to provide the furnishings at wholesale cost without any mark-ups.
During testimony, Seles said she became concerned about the cost during a 2014 cruise when there were so many pillows she could not sit on the couch.
Golisano argues Goldman overcharged by about $300,000 on an $845,000 project.
“Mr. Golisano struck a deal with the defendants in this case in exchange for them charging a very significant hourly rate for their services,” Golisano’s attorney Gelnn Pezullo said. “They agreed to provide the goods necessary to the project at their cost.”
The decorator denies agreeing that there would not be any markups. She said Golisano got the same deal she also gave him on his home.
Forbes ranks Golisano's net worth at $3.2 billion but his attorney says $300,000 is a lot of money to anyone and this fight comes down to principal.
Lawyers for the defense declined to offer a comment until the trial is complete.
The jury is expected to get the case Wednesday.
