Good Question: Is there another option other than E-ZPass?

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Getting a New York E-ZPass is the easiest and cheapest way to drive going forward on the cashless Thruway, but what if you don’t have one?

You can pay toll bills through the mail. That will cost 30% more with new rate hikes coming in 2021. You can also use an app on your phone, depending on where you are driving.

A viewer named Ron asked News10NBC’s Brennan Somers: I just downloaded PayTollo app. Is this ok to use instead of E-ZPass?

PayTollo is used by drivers in several states, including New York. The company partners with different Thruway agencies to make it work.

You just download the app, add your balance, and register your vehicle. It tracks your trip and tolls using the GPS on your phone.

Right now, it’s no good for drivers in the Finger Lakes. It only covers you in certain areas like going through tolls downstate around NYC and on the Grand Island bridges near Buffalo.

The staff at PayTollo told Somers they are not quite ready to launch on the new cashless Thruway system and the main stretches of 90 near Rochester, but they are working on it and also adding more price options for all tolls.

Be sure you check on that payment plan as well as any service and convenience fees with the app.
