ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Our Good Question today is about back to school and that quarantine rule.

News10NBC’s Brennan Somers heard from several families asking about trips. Maybe you are hoping to do something with the kids before schools reopen. People are asking, when will the travel quarantine order be lifted?

It now covers more than half the country, 31 states, and there's no end date.

The order states:

The Commissioner of Health in New York shall make public the impacted jurisdictions on its website and such travel advisory will be effective at 12:01 a.m. on June 25, 2020, until rescinded by the Commissioner.

But what about parents sending kids off to colleges not in N.Y.? Do you have to quarantine?

If you’re heading out and back during the same day the state rules say you’re good. There’s a 24-hour window that covers travelers. But, if your student is starting college far from NY and it’s a longer stay, then you do have to quarantine when you get back.
