Nine Republicans hoping to take Congressman Chris Collins' spot on the ballot were all in Batavia Tuesday night.
This is the next step in trying to find a replacement for Rep. Collins after he suspended his campaign following his arrest for alleged insider trading.
On Tuesday, protestors gathered outside Batavia Downs with signs calling the Republicans co-conspirators.
Previously, GOP leaders said they wanted a candidate in place by Tuesday but as of now, no decision has been made.
"I would say everything is on the table at this point. No candidates have been ruled in or out that have put their names forward. We'll be talking to the candidates and we haven't scheduled the next round of interviews but we'll be certainly deliberating," stated Nick Langworthy, Erie County Republican.
Republicans say election law attorneys have assured them that they can legally get Rep. Collins off the ballot if he works with them.
However, Democrats have threatened to sue.
