Cuomo announces start of 43North competition

BUFFALO N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced applications were now being accepted for the 6th annual 43North startup competition.

The competition invites entrepreneurs to submit their business startups for a chance to win cash investments as large as $1 million for their businesses. The prize also includes mentorship, free incubator space, and access to 43North's network of North American investors.

The competition is based in Buffalo and invites startups from across the country, and internationally, to come to grow their business in Western New York.

Over the competition's first five years, 43North has crowned 44 winning startups. Since winning the competition, those companies have raised another $218 million in venture capital and created over 400 jobs in Buffalo.

In total, the competition will give out $5 million to winners.
