BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) — Video captured during a protest in Niagara Square is going viral.
It shows a protestor approaching police, who was shoved by police and fell backward.
The protestor hits the ground, making a loud noise, and blood appears to be coming out of his ear after he hits the ground.
An initial police statement claimed the man was injured when he tripped and fell in front of Buffalo City Hall.
However, the video from the scene shows the 75-year-old man was pushed by police before tripping and falling.
Buffalo Police say the two officers involved have been suspended without pay.
Our Buffalo affiliate is reporting that the man suffered a cut to the head and possibly a concussion but is in serious but stable condition at Erie County Medical Center
In a tweet Thursday night, Gov. Andrew Cuomo called the incident "unjustified and utterly disgraceful."
This incident is wholly unjustified and utterly disgraceful.— Andrew Cuomo (@NYGovCuomo) June 5, 2020
I've spoken with Buffalo @MayorByronBrown and we agree that the officers involved should be immediately suspended pending a formal investigation.
Police Officers must enforce — NOT ABUSE — the law. https://t.co/EYIbTlXnPt
