GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) -- A Greece high school teacher is charged with harassment following a complaint from a student.

Donald Scanzaroli,63, is a technology teacher at Odyssey Academy.

Greece Police say he was in a classroom Tuesday when a student came in and became disruptive.

Scanzaroli asked the student to leave and called security but the student helped himself to the teacher's desk and that's when the situation escalated.

"The teacher approached him, grabbed onto him and threw him to the ground. And then the allegation is that he kind of leaned on him with his knee and kind of put his hand in the area of his neck to restrain him on the ground at which point security intervened," said Sgt. Jared Rene, Greece Police.

Rene says the situation was a citizen's arrest and Scanzaroli was given an appearance ticket.

Police will not release a photo of him since the charge is a violation of the law, similar to a speeding ticket.

He was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
