IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Who goes on someone's property and takes their flowers? That's what News10NBC is trying to figure out because a homeowner in Irondequoit says it happened to her.

What the person didn't know is that cameras were watching him the whole time.

In the video, the homeowner said it showed a man in the process of stealing hanging flower baskets near her front door. We watched the video and the man had his hands full. He had two baskets in his left hand while he reached up to get another with his right.

"I had three hanging baskets here," said Kelly Attili. "And then I had two beautiful purple ones out here."

Attili showed us where the flowers used to be. She said they were worth about $90.

"This kind of breaks my heart to see somebody who is older coming onto my property and stealing my plants," she said.

This actually happens a lot. We found multiple stories of people stealing flowers across the country.

The time stamp on Attili's security cameras showed 11:05 p.m. Sunday.

One of Attili's security cameras captured the getaway car pull up and stop. The video showed the man get out of the passenger seat, open the back passenger side door and start walking to Attili's home.

"As he was walking, he had this noticeable limp to him," said Josh Attili, Kelly's son.

He re-traced the steps. Josh and his mother said they don't recognize the man.

The video showed the man hide by a tree on the corner.

"And then he moved a little closer and then made his getaway to the first two hanging baskets right here," Josh said.

That's when he got the flowers by the front door. The other security video showed the man walking across the lawn and putting the baskets in the car.

But it's not over.

The video also showed him come back for the flowers hanging on the side of the house.

"He sees the two plants in the backyard and he tries to open the gate and it obviously won't open," Josh said.

The gate is locked.

"I'd like to really find this guy," Kelly Attili said. "If he's doing it to me, he's going to be doing it to other people."

Irondequoit Police took a report. News10NBC spoke to the chief and he told us he hasn't heard of other instances like this.
