HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WHEC) — The owner of a daycare in Henrietta is facing charges after deputies say a 1-year-old was beaten with an instrument.
Shannon Johnson, 37, was arrested on Oct. 4 following an investigation into an incident that allegedly left a child with physical injuries at Kiddie City Daycare.
Investigators said she hit the baby with an instrument on Aug. 29 at the facility on Thompson Road. The parents noticed the child was hurt and went to the hospital.
"These daycares are licensed and overseen by the Office of Child and Family Services and a lot of allegations that come through that office, anything that rises to the level of a crime, we end up getting and I can tell you we do these very infrequently," said Inv. Sgt. David Bolton.
The daycare has been shut down since Aug. 30.
Johnson was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned in Henrietta Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail on $5,000 bail. Deputies said she has since posted bail.
Her husband, John Johnson, 40, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Deputies said the charge stems from an incident that happened while they were searching the daycare. He was issued an appearance ticket.
Shannon Johnson is due in court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Investigators think there may be more victims. They are interviewing other families who used the daycare.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
