In less than two months, Team USA will be competing against the best athletes in the world for gold medals in the Winter Olympics. News10NBC is your home for the Olympics in Korea, but it wasn't too long ago the Olympics were in New York State.
Sports reporter Breland Moore is in Lake Placid for a behind the scenes look at one of the most important buildings in American sports history.
Do you believe in miracles? Thirty seven years ago, that was the famous phrase used to describe a game that took place right on at the Herb Brooks Arena.
In February of 1980, a group of blue collar American college kids took down the hockey superpower that was the Soviet Union. In the height of the Cold War, the game dubbed the "Miracle on Ice" certainly meant more than just the score on the scoreboard. We were able to get a behind the scenes look at the Miracle on Ice venue from 1980 facilities manager Butch Martin.
Martin says, "Getting to know Herb and Craig Patrick and some of the players and trainers and stuff, we felt part of it. To see them succeed like that was very exciting and I have carried that with me to this day."
You can catch our full walkthrough during the 2018 Winter Olympics this coming February.
