Highland Hospital honored the oldest surviving Battle of the Bulge veteran in western New York.

Bill Cooper is a hospice patient who will turn 101 years old next Friday.

Cooper has regularly attended the Battle of the Bulge ceremonies at the Port of Rochester, but will not be able to make it to this year's ceremony.

So, Highland Hospital held a ceremony to honor him.

News10NBC asked Cooper why he's proud to be a veteran. "I'm proud that I was able to come back, and that they do remember the people who didn't come back with Armistice Day, yep."

At the ceremony, Cooper was presented with a flag blanket, pin, and certificate.

Veterans Day falls on Sunday this year but will be celebrated as a federal holiday on Monday.
