District leaders talked with parents and the community Wednesday night about the possibility of having armed guards in the hallways at the Hilton Central School District.
District leaders were looking to vote on getting an armed school resource officer back in June.
They delayed that to get more feedback from parents.
"We've been able to take the opportunity to hire retired law enforcement from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office," said Casey Kosiorek, Hilton superintendent. "...very highly trained caliber of individuals, we really pride ourselves as a district on being innovative and we saw this as an option for us to provide school resource officers in each one of our buildings."
Ultimately, the superintendent said if a shooter came into one of their buildings, the district would want one of the officers to be able to save lives.
Another meeting is scheduled for Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Merton Williams Middle School multi-instructional room. You can also share your thoughts confidentially via an online tool.
