You might not love the cold, but workers at Casa Larga Vineyards do.

They were out Friday morning picking grapes for ice wine, a type of dessert wine, at the vineyards in Fairport.

Each years, Casa Larga leaves a select portion of the vineyard unharvested to let the grapes freeze naturally on the vine.

Grapes are pressed while still frozen, producing ice wine.

"It's a little bit later than it typically is because we kind of skipped a month of winter there in December but we're excited to get out here," winemaker Matt Cassavaugh said. "We've got really cold temperatures today."

In order to pick the grapes for ice wine, it needs to be below 17 degrees the entire time.

Casa Larga is preparing for this year's New York Ice Wine & Culinary Festival. The event takes place at the winery on Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Wegmans, the Casa Larga wine shop, and on Casa Larga's website.
