GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich has been appointed to the International Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board by the International Joint Commission.
The IJC made the announcement Tuesday. Back in July, it had announced it would be adding two members to its board, one from the U.S. and one from Canada, to help the board better assess the impacts of water levels along the shores of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River.
IJC says the appointment of Reilich and a member from Canada, who has yet to be appointed, will help “assist in their efforts to document the human and social impacts of recent flooding at the local and municipal levels in order to enrich the board’s discussions and decisions.”
"Under my leadership and with a great team in place, the Town of Greece has been at the forefront in shoreline resiliency and exploring out of the box measures to support our residents who have struggled with rising waters in both 2017 and this year,” Reilich said.
In June, the IJC acknowledged issues with Plan 2014 but told the community not to expect fast changes to the plan. Some community members are calling for President Donald Trump to step in.
