ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— News10NBC is going In-Depth to look at when you can bring the casino to your mobile phone.

Earlier this year, New York State lawmakers passed a law allowing mobile sports betting, but it has yet to take effect.

The state is still looking for third-party apps, like Fan Duel or DraftKings to run mobile sports betting in the state. The government just opened up bids for that earlier this month.

The New York State Gaming Commission told New York Upstate, that process is expected to take months.

The commission must award the license no later than Dec. 6.

Currently, you can only make in-person bets at state-owned casinos or casinos operated by the state’s Indian nations.

If all goes as planned, the hope is mobile sports betting will be up and running by the Super Bowl.

That’s Feb. 6, 2022.
