ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP/WHEC) — President Joe Biden Tuesday announced he wants 70% of adults to have at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the Fourth of July.

That would mean administering an additional 100 million shots in the next 60 days. As of Tuesday, 56% of adults in the U.S. have received at least one COVID-19 shot.

The president laid out a three-phase approach to meeting that goal, including getting younger people vaccinated, making it easier to find a vaccine location without an appointment and shifting from mass vaccination sites to smaller ones.

In New York State, 46.9% have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. In Monroe County, 50.7% have been vaccinated.

Orleans County has the lowest percentage of people vaccinated in the Finger Lakes region at 35.7%.
