ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We're going In-Depth on extra COVID vaccine supply, and vaccine eligibility.

We are starting to see more doses being distributed across the state, including here in the Finger Lakes Region, however, there are still millions of New Yorkers who aren't eligible. So what happens if there are extra doses at the end of the day?

All facilities, including pharmacies, must have a "stand by" list of people who are eligible, and once they get through current bookings and that secondary list, facilities can then vaccinate anyone who qualifies.

If at the end of the day there are still vaccine doses available that are set to expire, pharmacists can then vaccinate any consenting adult, even if they aren't eligible yet.

This is to make sure no doses are wasted.
