ALBION, N.Y. (WHEC) -- A female corrections officer was attacked by an inmate during a medical trip in Orleans County.
Police say it happened last Friday.
The 20-year-old inmate, who is serving time at Albion Correctional Facility, was taken to the emergency department at Medina Memorial Hospital.
The Police Benevolent Association of New York says the inmate's wrist restraint was removed while in the bathroom with the officer. The inmate then used her free hand to punch the officer several times in the face.
When the officer yelled for help, two officers and a supervisor came to the scene.
The officer sustained an eye contusion, bloody nose and facial and scalp contusions.
The inmate was returned to Albion Correctional Facility.
She is serving a six-year sentence after being convicted on assault and robbery charges stemming from 2017.
