HAMLIN, N.Y. (WHEC) — A convicted felon and sex offender is facing a weapons charge after a police investigation shut down a portion of Hamlin Parma Townline Road in Hamlin Tuesday.

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Hamlin Parma Townline Road around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to check the welfare of a person who is believed to be inside. Deputies say when they arrived, it appeared a gun was shot inside of the house.

Deputies set up a perimeter and tried to get the resident out. Hamlin Parma Town Line Road was shut down between Church Road and Moul Road out of what deputies say was an abundance of caution.

Deputies say about two hours later, they detained the man and found multiple long guns inside the home.

Kevin Waleski Jr., 33, of Batavia, was arrested and charged with second degree criminal mischief and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon. Deputies say he's a convicted felon and a level 1 sex offender.

He was remanded to the Monroe County Jail without bail because he's a predicate felon.
