IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Boaters packed the boat launch in Seabreeze on Saturday despite high water levels.
It was the first time the Irondequoit Bay boat launch has been open all year.
Parts of the parking lot and the dock are underwater making the launch unstable. However, the town of Irondequoit put up a temporary elevated ramp for boaters, and they're taking advantage of it.
"It was very easy to get in, built well, was safe," said boater Sharon Carroll. "Make sure you have water shoes and have all the preparations that you need, and you're good."
Carroll bought her boat just last year, but this is the first time she's been able to use it on the Irondequoit Bay this year.
"This year we've had all the flooding," Carroll said. "I was bummed out but we went to Conesus."
Boaters have enjoyed the bay despite wake restrictions, but wish other boaters would follow the speed limit more closely.
"You need to respect the shoreline and the other boaters," said Terry Thorpe.
While boating ramps up, so is business nearby as those using this launch plan on eating and drinking at neighboring restaurants.
"Not being able to come out here, that they've done this temporarily, it's helped a lot of people," said Thorpe.
