BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer is facing backlash after he endorsed congressional candidate Beth Parlato Saturday night.
Jim Kelly, who lives in the 27th congressional district, tweeted that he and his wife are supporting the Republican candidate. He also tagged President Donald Trump.
President @realdonaldtrump my wife, Jill and I are supporting @BethforCongress for our district #NY27— Jim Kelly (@JimKelly1212) January 19, 2020
Our daughters grew up together; we know her and trust her to stand for what matters most. She’s a strong conservative/republican we believe can win special elec 4/28.
People called Kelly out for getting political and supporting a conservative candidate, as well as his mention of the president.
Kelly's wife came to his defense, saying they were supporting a friend that they've known for more than 20 years.
When you tweet to support a friend running for Congress that you’ve known for more than 20 years and you get hate. It’s called LOYALTY.— Jill Kelly (@jillmkelly12) January 19, 2020
Parlato is a Western New York family attorney, Fox News Contributor, and former Darien Town Justice.
She is running against fellow Republicans Christopher Jacobs, Robert Ortt, Frank Smierciak II, as well as Democrat Nate McMurray in the April 28 special election.
