BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) — A judge in Congressman Chris Collins' insider trading case says Collins' lawyers should "be prepared" to discuss whether they plan to appeal the Judge's decisions in pretrial motions.
It could be a sign of trouble for the Republican and his legal team.
According to the Buffalo News, the judge issued an order saying he finished his opinion on two defense motions that aim to force prosecutors to turn over more evidence.
The defense wants to see if the evidence shows if Collins' rights were violated under the Constitution's speech or debate clause.
The judge is keeping his decision a secret for now, but Collins would not have to appeal if he ruled in his favor.
Collins represents the 27th Congressional District that includes all of Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming and Livingston Counties and parts of Erie, Monroe, Niagara and Ontario counties. He has not yet announced whether he will seek another term, even as other candidates have emerged for both the Republican and Democratic party ballots.
