NEW YORK (WHEC) — Neighbors along the Lake Ontario shoreline are making a push for state help as a result of the 2019 flooding.

Right now, breakwall damage is not included in the REDI funding.

Lakeshore home and business owners are asking again for help paying for repairs to their breakwalls after they were damaged by the floods.

State Senator Joe Robach wrote a letter to the governor asking him to include breakwall repairs in funding allocated through the REDI commission.

In the meantime, some residents are getting creative.

Pepsy Kettavong designed his own.

"It's about absorbing the wave and converting it back to the wave rather than just confronting the wave we're using the wave to its advantage," Kettavong said.

Kettavong said he started designing it last year with the hope of protecting shoreline residents.
