HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WHEC)- An 8-year-old girl from the Rochester area died on Saturday night after drowning in the pool at the Residence Inn in Henrietta.
According to Monroe County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Michael Fowler, the girl was swimming with three other kids when she went under water at the hotel pool around 8:35 p.m. The girl was not located until about 11 minutes later, and a man attempted to do CPR on the victim until the ambulance arrived.
The girl was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to the Sheriff's Office, it is believed that the girl's death was a tragic accident and it is unlikely that any charges will be filed. Regardless, an investigation is underway and law enforcement has been looking over security cameras and taking water samples.
There were no lifeguards on scene, simply signs saying that anyone swimming was doing so at their own risk.
Our crew at the scene observed there were several Monroe County Sheriff's Office cars at the hotel, as well as units from the Henrietta Fire Department and Chili Ambulance. Guests were still being allowed in and out of the hotel.
We will update as we learn more.
