The Sheriff's Office Association of Retirees, or SOAR, claims the county eliminated Medicare coverage last year for about 1,800 retirees that were promised in their contracts.

In a statement, the county says SOAR's claim that retirees have lost Medicare coverage is false, and courts have ruled in favor of the county's current retiree healthcare practices eight times.

The full statement from the Monroe County Director of Communications Jesse Sleezer is below:

"On behalf of a grateful community, we thank the members of SOAR for their service. However, SOAR's claim that county retirees have lost Medicare coverage is false. Furthermore, courts have ruled in favor of the County's current retiree healthcare practices eight times, including a unanimous decision on June 29 from the New York State Appellate Division. We encourage any County retirees with questions about their healthcare coverage to visit monroeretirees.com.
